Best Value For Fifth Edition--beware pagination

This is a facsimile of the 5th Edition Nieto & Bode book, put out by Pearson Custom Publishers for university classes, rather than by Allyn & Beacon--so it is way cheaper (I know it is 5th edition as it gives that information on page three, and it was published in 2008, a year after the 5th edition's 2007 publishing date). As such it has no bells and whistles It is in black and white, but the text is here. It doesn't have a preface, and the text has some funky pagination after p366. Chapter Ten follows Chapter Nine, but somehow, pagination diverges by 40 pages, even as the chapters remain the same. So, weird... Anyhow, for $8 used (rather than $60 second hand for the A&B text) that I paid for it, it is good enough for my uses.

Won't work for graduate courses
By stuck
I bought this as a cheaper alternative to the original for a class. However, it did not provide a fraction of the necessary information needed to pass the quizzes, complete assignments, etc. I ended up having to buy the complete version anyway, plus Amazon won't allow you to trade this version back in at the Textbook Trade-In site. So I guess I am stuck with it now.

Ok, but Not Complete Textbook!

If you only need to read chapters 1-5 this will suit you just fine. However, chapters 6-10 are missing. (compare this one to other editions and you will see you're missing ALOT) Product description didn't mention that.

This book has been out of print for about 10 years. A few months ago, I visited Chris Lloyd of Special Interest books in Poole. During out chat, I mentioned Ian Bradley's Myford lathe book. He said there was no intention at that stage of reprinting it. You can imagine my surprise when I received a copy through the post in mid July saying the book had been reprinted. This is a welcome addition to any Myford owner's workshop. Copies change hands on Ebay for up to GBP50 each. The book runs through the basics of a Myford lathe and then tells you about installing and levelling it. Lathe tool selection and regrinding are covered in detail followed by how to mount work in the lathe. General turning, drilling and boring are covered as well as threading and screwcutting. Milling, gear cutting, and taper turning each have their own section, as does repetition work. Drawings are given for a back toolpost together with accessories. There is a section on useful formulas and tables and the book concludes with lubrication charts for the ML7, the ML7R and the Super 7 lathes. All in all, a very useful book which will find a home with most Myford users - The Model Engineers Workshop.

About the Author
Ian Bradley, who died in 1995, had a lifetime's experience in precision engineering and contributed articles to Model Engineer magazine for over 50 years. During that period, thousands of engineers had come to regard this book as the first point of reference to turn to when a new aspect of the hobby presented itself.

About the Author

Lisa Maurizio is Associate Professor of Classical and Medieval Studies at Bates College. She publishes on Greek religious practices, especially divination at Delphi. In addition, she has written several plays on classical themes, two of which have been produced by Animus Ensemble at the Boston Center for the Arts: "Tereus in Fragments" and "The Memory of Salt."

This book should be required reading for every American!

I absolutely agree with what Oliver DeMille present in this book. We are in a losing war if the people don't understand the 12 Natural Laws and how our government is abusing them to our detriment. The constitution is being shreaded more and more and if the people don't stop it soon the only way they will be able to have freedom again is through another revolution.

If you plan on buying a copy of this book may I recommend you buy 3, because after you read this bok you are going to want to share it with others and you will want to do that to wake them up as you have been raised to an awareness of the 12 Natural Laws and how our government has been side stepping them fo many many years.

Freedom works

In this book DeMille outlines twelve laws—what are called natural laws—that are critical to the freedom, progress, and success of any nation. He does a great job of articulating these laws and explaining why they are fundamental to any group of people that want to live together in freedom. He explains why freedom is not something we may take for granted if we want to keep it. The book is not long, is presented in a straightforward manner, and is important in helping current generations understand what freedom is and why we want to keep it. This is an important book.

The 12 Natural Laws, Freedom, Citizenship, Centralizing of Power by the government.

This is a very good book that details the state of our American government in relationship to the 12 Natural Laws, the move toward centralized power and the subsequent loss of freedom.

We are in a decling state within this once great country of ours but all is not lost because trends can be reversed as "We the People" become informed about our roles as citizens. Because of our ignorance of our American history, as well as from major free peoples throughout the ages, we are losing our freedoms. Some of that loss is because of negligence, ignorance and apathy.

The resurgence of a healthy government model can come about because of an informed populace who take that knowledge and become involved at the local, state and federal (although we no longer have a federal government, we have a national government).

As Benjamin Franklin came out of the Constitutional Convention in Sept. of 1787, he responded to a woman who asked what kind of government we had, he said, "a republic madaam if you can keep it." This book is a very good tool to help us "keep the republic".
